History of Didsbury and passenger rail

The Mountain View Model Railroad Club is an integral part of the Didsbury Museum. Their exhibits, both indoor and the new Outdoor Garden Train, are a highlight with all our visitors. ( http://www.mvmrc.ca/index.html )

The completion of the Calgary and Edmonton ( C & E) Railway in 1891 opened the vast lands of central Alberta to settlement and development. The settlement at Didsbury emerged as a depot community along the new line.

1897 saw the arrival of the Canadian Pacific Railway, which pushed forward the town's development. The CPR constructed a station in the town in 1904. Didsbury was incorporated as a village in 1905 and as a town on September 6, 1906.
